4 MILLION DOLLAR SITE
Moniker, a provider of Domain Asset Management services, continued to lead the industry in premium adult-related domain name sales having successfully brokered the sale of FreePorn, an adult entertainment portal, for US $4 million. Separately, Moniker also finalized its domain name auctions at Internext Las Vegas, grossing more than $1.5 million in domain name sales from that event.
The sale of FreePorn marks one of the largest two-word domain name sales in history and is the largest domain transaction of 2008, to date. The site was launched in 1996 and has consistently been one of the largest portals of free, adult entertainment on the Web. The site has continually gown in page and traffic rank according to Alexa.
"A marketable domain name is crucial to the success of any online adult entertainment business, perhaps more so than in any other industry," said Monte Cahn, co-founder and President of Moniker. "FreePorn is generic in nature, helping its new owner benefit from direct navigation and general in- bound inquires directed at the site daily."

Its not quite that simple. FreePorn is an entirely advertising-supported site, as a quick look at their site shows. So the question is not 'how much porn does it take to generate four million dollars?' but 'How many user-minutes of viewing does it take to generate four million dollars?' Divide that by the number of users - which, for a site at freeporn.com must be one hell of a lot of users - and you have the average number of minutes the site needs to keep a viewer entertained.
Thats how much porn it takes: Enough to keep the average user watching the screen for so many minutes. To break even requires very little.
Of course, any time the viewers spend after that is pure profit, so the actual amount of porn the site holds will be as high as practical - they want to keep their users looking, and that requires a constant supply of new material for them, and material to satisfy the wide selection of preferences.
Here is the most impressive thing about the site though - look at its traffic ranking: http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_de
Around the end of 2007 it just *shot* up - the site's growth is explosive. Growth like that has hardly ever been seen since the bubble burst. No wonder it sold for so much, that site is an investor's dream. I dont know what happened to trigger that rise in traffic, but its just amazingly fast.
If I had four million dollars, I would consider buying freeporn.com a very reliable way to turn it into a lot more than four million dollars.
"Further, Moniker has donated the proceeds from the sale of AdultPhotoExchange .com to The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP). The $5,000 sale proceeds will allow the ASACP to continue its commitment to protect children's welfare online."
$5000 really isn't much, you are right. Still, its better than nothing. It doesn't seem to have gotten them a great deal of publicity.
