So I graduated college this past weekend. Clint and Craig and their fam's showed up and surprised me the morning of and came to the ceremony (very boring might i add but I graduated so who cares). They honored me with this blog post. Thanks guys. The pic is ridiculous and I aplogize.

Anyways, since I graduated college I figure I should do a recommended reading post. Fyi you read a lot in college...

Books that changed my life in chronological order from high school to college. Disclaimer: These books do not reflect the opinions of X3. k cool. they just changed my life.

Check and see if any of these would be good reads for you where you are at right now. There is something for everyone below. And let me know you opinions because i know you have one.

Bible
Um, yea it is a pretty sweet book.

Every Young Man's Battle: Strategies for Victory in the Real World of Sexual Temptation
Too long of a title but basically this was a huge wake up call for me when I was 16. The cool thing about this book is that it is practical. I knew that was not supposed to take a second look at a girl but i did not know how not to. A way that the author suggests is bouncing your eyes...I still bounce the eyes today.

Questions You Can't Ask Your Mama
Old school XXXCHURCH. A little trivia this book was the first book ever from X3. 68 and a half questions that you cant ask your mom because well she is your mom. The book is in Q+A format which makes it a easy read. Great to pass around to friends and maybe your mom.

Velvet Elvis
At Bible college this was good read because it helped me put in perspective some stuff I was wrestling with. Chapter six is a must read - "Who we are now."

Following Jesus: Biblical Reflections on Discipleship

A little stuffy and over your head is good sometimes. NT Wright is British theologian and I bet he does not like hip hop music. It is a good book if you want to be stretched a bit in your thinking of Jesus.

Adam's Return: The Five Promises of Male Initiation

I am reading this right now and it is kicking my behind. Here is a quote for you "Men have always seemed to need a whomp on the side of the head, a fall from the proverbial tower, their own blood humiliation (which was circumcision in some cultures)..." Eh, ouch...

Wouldn't reading these things constantly make you fixate on sex and porn more than you would have if you had left those sorts of books well enough alone? I mean, I know you work for xxxChurch and all, but that just borders on the obsessive.

well, only 2 out of 6 books really focus on sex and porn. for me these books worked for me at certain times of my life. i have different set of standards now than in high school, so what i read then is different than now. for me i try to read challenging stuff...if anything the majority these books focus on the Bible...

I saw NT Wright speaking at a worshipcentral conference hosted by Tim Hughes and Matt Redman. It may surprise you that he was a worship leader in the 60's, and used to be a long-haired Jesus-freak :D.

hmmm...guess i didn't read too closely last night. Plus, I guess I'm so used to dudes on facebook and everywhere else listing 50+ books about porn or not having sex or whatever under their "favorite books" catagory.

Kinda off topic, by do you think it's a little weird that where there is a Christian dude, he will list off all these books? (please don't be offended, I'm a female dinosaur and as such perhaps i just don't fully understand) In the youth groups and stuff there was soooo much pressure for guys to read these sorts of books allll the time. I'm pretty sure not all guys really need those books, and maybe it's a bit unfair to pressure them to read them?

Anyways, sorry for the random question that might not make a lot of sense....finals time over here.

Oh, congrats on graduating too!

You titled this "Read boyz + girls" and yet you wrote it like it was for guys only. For example, you mentioned Every Young Man's Battle but forgot to mention Every Young Woman's Battle for the girls. That's okay though I guess. I'm a girl who actually read both of them. My mom made me read Every Young Man's Battle before giving it to my bother cuz she wanted me to "see how messed up guys really are". Amazingly, Every Young Man's Battle actually helped me a lot more than the young woman's one--even though I'm a girl. The girls' book looked at everything from the perspective that girls are truly only looking for love, which isn't the whole truth for me. I've always had a problem with lust. So, a word to any girls out there struggling with lust: you actually should try reading Every Young Man's Battle even if you're a girl.

where can i get the books to buy?
brandon wrote on May 18th 08 at 02:51PM
@Mac - all these books are available online, click the orange links above on the book titles and it will take you to a place online to buy the books.

@Keara+Kaydon - Only two of the books above actually deal with men only. And i would recommend those to any young lady who wants a better perspective on guys. Every Young Man's Battle, of course should be read with caution and some adult guidance as it is pretty graphic and stark - always better to have someone you xan discuss stuff with...

And to comment on dudes who have lists of fav books. On Facebook you will not see any lists on my page - these genuinely are books which have stretched me greatly and i would recommend them to both boyz and girlz.

Thanks for the suggestions, Brandon. I've read most of these but I definitely am going to check out Adam's Return, sounds great.

Thanks again, man.

why is this site titled as a christian porn site? I find meaningful informatin on this site but with such a name it sounds like a bad thing that many christians wouldnt want to be a part of
