ALLOW ME TO INTRODUCE MYSELF
A year ago you may have extended your hand to me and I would have replied to your name with, "I'm Donovan Phillips". Had conversation progressed I'd quickly have revealed to you that I was a porn producer, particularly if I had any inkling that you were a Christian. I was not ashamed of my profession, and I loved shocking Christians. I never knew what type of reaction to expect when I revealed my career choice, but I always looked forward to finding out.
Today I introduce myself to you with my birth name: Donny Pauling, a man doing his best to follow Jesus the Christ. A man who is at peace in the midst of storms. A man who has a hope that God will use him to accomplish great things, yet even if not chosen to do so will follow and serve and love his Creator with all of his heart.
One of the things I believe God will use me for is to help remove the fantasy of pornography from those who struggle with it, replacing said fantasy with reality. Right here, on this blog, I will pursue that purpose. It may get a bit ugly.
But let's start with something light. Let's start with an email I received from a former model. She'd been reading my personal blog and, at first, couldn't believe I'd become a Christian. She... well, I'll let her tell you.

I am a former model for you, I do not want to use my name because of what I experienced with that, but I did want to comment. I have been reading your blog for a few months, and I am very impressed. I'll admit, I was shocked at first just because I stumbled upon your blog and was like "whoa".
I found this post exceptionally personal, to me at least, because if you remember my "finding out" involved some very damaging events involving my boyfriend, and some friends of his. Like so many other young women, it made my life a living hell. And like I'm sure you realize now, most women posing for you were already going through a personal hell that had brought them there.
I am very sorry for what you are going through, in a way, I've been there. It seems almost ironic that 2 years ago you were telling me that my boyfriend should be more open-minded and concilatory to me posing.
What I learned from the experience was that it made me a stronger individual, and I hope (as it seems it has) that it does the same for you. Even then, I knew you were an extremely GOOD person, something I could never explain to anyone else adequately when asked, but I myself knew to be true.

Just because people claiming to follow Jesus represent him REALLY badly at times does not mean the message Jesus was trying to give is wrong.
I had my eyes focused on PEOPLE instead of on Jesus. People fail. That's a given. That's one thing you can bank on. Jesus, however, does not. He loves everyone despite their background or what they've done.
I still have a hard time with people from my past. Church people, I'm referring to. But I have no difficulty accepting God once "his" people are removed from the picture.

The devil hates it when he loses a disciple and works extra hard to get you back...you can see his work through all these comments berating you and belittling you for following God. He is using his disciples to try to create doubt.
I have been seeking out those who have found God and, as a result, have come across many blogs such as yours. All of the women in that industry discuss how damaging it is to their soul to engage in that type of work. Their redemption in Christ has given them a new lease on life and to doubt His existence is to be blind to the difference He has made in these people who have accepted Him. So on one hand, Christianity is terrible because it is so injust. porn is truly addictive, for obvious reasons. i too have struggled with it, since I was a boy and must confess, have tried to stop watching it @ failed every time. those times I didnt want to stop, i just felt guilty. sex is every where around us, and I really felt in the past an overwhelming need to give in to temptation. Here is what I never have understood. Why people attack Christians with such ferver. I understand that throughout history people in the name of Christ have done some really atrocious things, but that doesn't mean that Jesus is flawed, just that we are. I think that people that attack the religion are, well funny. And the people that attack right back are even funnier. That just shows that neither of them know that it really isn't a religion, it is a relationship. Yeah, I follow Jesus' teachings and that doesn't make me a "fucking pussy". I know what I am and who I am, and I have seen things that would be quite unexplainable to anyone.
Even if you take religion out of it, porn is something that can be very destructive. At this point it seems like it takes more of a man to not look at porn than to join the herd and become a sheep like everyone else that does. That seems more pussy to me than saying no. Call a spade a spade, and quit trying to pull the focus off of what is really being talked about.
If Donny wants to leave, then who cares. That is his choice to make, regardless of his reasons. To attack that is just idiotic, and juvenile. If you are angry at his decision, maybe ask yourself why. It isn't going to stop the industry, and if it is something above reproach it will stand on its own.

Let's look at some of the truly evil and destructive people in the past century, shall we? How about Hitler? Although baptized a Catholic, he was clearly not influenced by religion of any form. As a matter of fact, Nazi ideology was hostile to every form of organized religion. In order to fill the gap, the Nazis tried to come up with an updated view of Norse mythology, complete with phony archeological digs and stuff like that. Death toll caused by Hitler and his followers: In the tens of millions, none of them attributable to religion.
Next store, Joe Stalin was responsible for tens of millions of deaths himself. One of the first things he did was close all the churches and send lots of clergy to prison camps. To the south and east, we had Chairman Mao, also responsible for the deaths of tens of millions, mostly through starvation caused by foolish economic policies and fraud as to the state of the nation. Mao was the one who described religion as poison. One of his acts was to invade Tibet, where the Chinese still are, busy persecuting the Buddhists. Before the invasion of those atheistic Communists, Tibet was one of the most peaceful places on earth. You might recall that the spiritual (i.e. religious, get it) leader of Tibet is the Dalai Lama, a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Now, let us move on to your views on evolution. You might want to try a little evolution yourself, so that you do not appear dumber than a rock, but as a long as we are on the subject, consider for a moment what you get if, as you suggest, you simply let people evolve with no moral strictures at all. Well, you get a world of survival of the fittest. Whoever can burn, rape, pillage and plunder the best wins. An attractive prospect, no? Ah, but you say, societies evolve, so that people don't do that anymore. They figure out soon enough that everyone has to cooperate somewhat if the group is going to survive. OK, but what is the first thing that societys regulate? Sexuality. There are hardly any societies in the world which advocate widespread promiscuity. There are a few, on islands in the Pacific or the Amazon rain forest or something, but even those have some sort of restrictions on sexual conduct, and outside of a small isolated group like that, promiscuity just doesn't work. It makes people angry. It makes people sick. It makes people kill each other.
So whadda ya know, it seems we need moral rules after all, and where do you find them? Within religion. Funny how that works. Makes atheism look pretty stupid and unworkable.
As for Donny, I do not know him and do not know of his work, but if he talks about harm his work has done in the past, I will take his word for it. More than that, I can easily imagine it. Talk to psychologists, folks. They will agree. Promiscuity is a bad idea. It costs people. Really. Are the parties involved responsible for their own actions? Sure, but more or less irellevant. That implies that none of us are our brother's keeper, that we have no responsibility for the consequences our actions might have for others. Would any of you like to live in such a world?

Let's look at some of the truly evil and destructive people in the past century, shall we? How about Hitler? Although baptized a Catholic, he was clearly not influenced by religion of any form. As a matter of fact, Nazi ideology was hostile to every form of organized religion. In order to fill the gap, the Nazis tried to come up with an updated view of Norse mythology, complete with phony archeological digs and stuff like that. Death toll caused by Hitler and his followers: In the tens of millions, none of them attributable to religion.
Next store, Joe Stalin was responsible for tens of millions of deaths himself. One of the first things he did was close all the churches and send lots of clergy to prison camps. To the south and east, we had Chairman Mao, also responsible for the deaths of tens of millions, mostly through starvation caused by foolish economic policies and fraud as to the state of the nation. Mao was the one who described religion as poison. One of his acts was to invade Tibet, where the Chinese still are, busy persecuting the Buddhists. Before the invasion of those atheistic Communists, Tibet was one of the most peaceful places on earth. You might recall that the spiritual (i.e. religious, get it) leader of Tibet is the Dalai Lama, a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Now, let us move on to your views on evolution. You might want to try a little evolution yourself, so that you do not appear dumber than a rock, but as a long as we are on the subject, consider for a moment what you get if, as you suggest, you simply let people evolve with no moral strictures at all. Well, you get a world of survival of the fittest. Whoever can burn, rape, pillage and plunder the best wins. An attractive prospect, no? Ah, but you say, societies evolve, so that people don't do that anymore. They figure out soon enough that everyone has to cooperate somewhat if the group is going to survive. OK, but what is the first thing that societys regulate? Sexuality. There are hardly any societies in the world which advocate widespread promiscuity. There are a few, on islands in the Pacific or the Amazon rain forest or something, but even those have some sort of restrictions on sexual conduct, and outside of a small isolated group like that, promiscuity just doesn't work. It makes people angry. It makes people sick. It makes people kill each other.
So whadda ya know, it seems we need moral rules after all, and where do you find them? Within religion. Funny how that works. Makes atheism look pretty stupid and unworkable.
As for Donny, I do not know him and do not know of his work, but if he talks about harm his work has done in the past, I will take his word for it. More than that, I can easily imagine it. Talk to psychologists, folks. They will agree. Promiscuity is a bad idea. It costs people. Really. Are the parties involved responsible for their own actions? Sure, but more or less irellevant. That implies that none of us are our brother's keeper, that we have no responsibility for the consequences our actions might have for others. Would any of you like to live in such a world?
What I see here from Donny's critics is a whole lot of people who are looking for an excuse to keep doing what they want to keep doing. I have to wonder why they need an excuse.

Donny I have just read this entire post and I have been moved. I started this post with the Word because nothing i can say can help you any more than the word of God. Don't ever give up, ever, and keep pressing on, you have many supporting you and your family with their prayers. And most of all you've got the Greater One within. Many times in my years of struggling with my own battles with this weakness, I cried out in tears. Please God! Deliver those in the "adult" entertainment industry. Help them, bring them out with a mighty hand. Your testimony and life is an answer to that prayer and the prayers of others, christian and non who want to be free. I pray that the Lord will give you wisdom as to how to take your ministry further and guide you every step of the way.

The Lord loves this world Jesus wouldn't have died if He didn't.He openly forgave the very people that crucified Him. and mocked him. "His mercy endures forever..."

Have you tried Him, have you asked HIM into your heart? have you sought for mercy and grace? Do you want to be free? Ask, seek, knock you will get an answer I promise you if you ask with all of your heart, holding nothing back.

I don't know you, but I know that I love you because we share the same hope of one day being in glory with our Lord Jesus Christ. God looks over our world that is full of the most incredible physical and emotional complexities.
We have wars, famines, tsunamis... suffering beyond imagination for millions.
Yet we a preoccupied (in His name) about men inserting their penises into anuses of other men.
It's kinda yuccy, I agree. But is it that big a deal when you have children dieing of hunger and diseases?

My husband had struggled with porn for years and it almost destroyed our marriage. I praise God for setting him free. Thank you so much for exposing the reality of porn and totally removing the fantasy of it. My husband can finally see that now! Praise the Lord!!

I desperately need a dose of the moral courage you have. Great job Donny...I am proud of you. Making the decision to leave the industry that you knew for years was brave and bold, whether coming from a Christian or not. I believe everyone posting negative comments has a part of them that wishes they had the courage to believe in something bigger as you have and that causes a lot of the anger in their postings. And I can definitely say that porn is addicting and destructive and that it takes much more courage to say no to it than to be another lemming chasing the money or the lies. Jesus is the answer...not people...not religion. Run the race, brother...

Donny, I was reading Ryan Dobsons book -2DIE4- and there was a reference to this web site. I have had an up hill battle with porn. I saw my first xxx magazine when i was 7 or 8 and ever since then I've been obsessed with it. Now I have been married for a year and have a 4 month old daughter. God and my family are now my motivation for stopping, and now it finally seems I have found the REAL answer to quitting. I know some people say that christians just "guilt trip" others so that they stop doing certain things. Well, for most of my life I could have gave a crap less of what a christian thought, but the funny thing is I still knew it was wrong and I felt the guilt weighing on my heart then just as bad as I do now that I am a true believer in christ. Porn is not right and cannot be justified and all these misguided souls who are writing all these slanderous, hateful statements know good and well deep within their hearts this is the truth. They are just too caught up in their sinful ways to see this. You are doing a wonderful thing Donny. Keep it up!

Look....to those of you who want to say God does not exist....or are without faith, etc.. don't you ever wonder that there has to be more to life than THIS...don't you ever just stop to think about your existence? ever wonder "why are we here"?
Life has too much meaning in it for to be all for nothing...the existence of the world and everything within it was no accident...if you just think about it....everything is within some sort of system....just stop and think..
ALSO...about this porno thing...pornography starts off as something enjoyable and seems harmless at first...but it can end up turning into an addiction...at can overcome people and consume them and takes up their precious time....there's so much more to life than sitting in front of a computer or TV and jackin it to some porn.....get out there....get a life....LIVE LIFE....
oh and another thing....try not to have sex before marriage....stop the spread of AIDS, herpes and all those other STD's....and no...whippin on a condom aint gonna help...eventually those things rip....disease happens...lil bastards happen...etc....and getting regularly tested doesn't really prevent you from catching STD's.....it just lets you find out that you got something and you should keep it in your pants away from others.....ok that's enough info.....I speak the truth....just use your stubborn minds people and you'll see what I mean.
