Dawn Writes:

I am conducting a doctoral dissertation on problematic sexual behavior in women and risk factors. Volunteers are needed to fill out a questionnaire (all multiple-choice and check-off lists) that will take approximately 20 minutes. Please email me at dmopitz@msn.com or call at 631-987-9807 for more information. I can mail the packet to a mailing address you have chosen and you will receive a $20 American Express Gift certificate, as well as the results of the study. Your responses are COMPLETELY CONFIDENTIAL!

And there you have it! If you're a female who has struggled with any form of sexual addiction you can anonymously assist in a study on the topic, AND you'll be paid to do so.

Hello xxxchurch. I am a 39 year old divorced woman.I was deep into the porn lifestyle until recently, although i still have issues, I thank God that He is showing me that I do have a problem. This letter is hard for me to write because a huge part of doesn't want to give up the lifestyle even though I know its destroying my sense of self worth.about a year ago a friend in Sacramento gave me a book to read, although i was high on meth at the time i read it.What a great book "The Gutter"is,even though i continued to make pornographic movies, prostitute myself and do drugs, this book was a major stepping stone in helping me get back to Christ.Thank you xxxchurch for breaking out of christian complacency and reaching into my gutter.I still have a long way to go,but im off the meth now and can really see things alot clearly.I would really like to get newsletters from you guys and any other suggestions you think would be helpful.Reaching towards the goal,MarLa

This study will be worthless, sorry. There are two sources of bias, one of which is almost impossible to compensate for and the other *is* impossible. The former is sampling bias from searching for volunteers online, and the latter the response bias (Those with an interesting story to tell will be far more likely to respond).

The correct way to carry out a study like this would be with a random sample. Get a cencus roll of a phone book and pick a few thousand names out at random. That eliminates sampling bias. Getting rid of the response is trickier, and its the reason many medical risk-factor studies will start off with only unaffected people, get them to agree in advance to be subjects, and then only after a year look for differences in those who have and those who havn't caught whatever is being studied.
