PART TWO: 8 REASONS / ONANISM
I never knew what Onanism was till today. Me and intern UK Jon were chilling in the flowered out hotel room (see pic), up at a youth retreat on Mackinac Island MI and one of the sessions we were doing was about helping students with the temptation of Onanism.
Jon made fun of me because I didn't know what it meant. He explained it was what many people consider to be the first and only dude in the Bible to masturbate. His name was Onan and their is record of him in the book of Genesis. Onanism is another way to say masterbation. I do not know if he was the first dude to masturbate or not..that isn't our worry. What I do know, in light of last weeks blog, we need to laugh more.
MASTURBATION is a weird word. So I propose we straight start go back to our roots and call masturbating, ONANISM. And you thought there wasn't a more awkward and weird word than MASTURBATION.
Onanism is more practical way of saying the Big M word. You may have heard it said "stop floggin' the dolphin," or "don't spank the monkey," (postcards available here). According to one source, that I will not reveal there are over 125,000 ways to say masturbation. Lets go way back to our roots and call it ONANISM.
So..."STOP OWNING IT!"
You and your buddies are keeping each other accountable simply ask the timeless question: "Did you OWN IT today?" And the reply, "no man haven't OWNED IT in awhile...
There is website out there that actually says that you can masturbate "worshiping the Lord," they explain that it is pleasing to the Lord and is an act of worship. Brilliant guys....
Good one. STOP OWNING IT, I mean be real here. The only reason you are OWNING IT is to please yourself not God. Maybe OWN your struggle... and put some Kirk Franklin on to worship instead of OWNING IT for no purpose but to please yourself.
ONANISM is selfish act that pleases no one but yourself. God made sex for man and woman, not man and himself, or women and herself.
Please remember Onan and STOP OWNING IT...

I don't know if in context it really means masturbation, as I interpreted that as being when Onan was disobeying God by not giving his wife a child. But in X3 land, lets use it to embrace masturbation. "Stop ONANING IT" could really catch on ;)
Correct. Thus, I propose that Christians should also abstain from the following: Television, sporting events, high-quality food, buying comfortable furniture, the use of makeup, decorative items in the home or any other type of ornamentation, car accessories, games of all types including but not limited to physical, card, computer, console and board.
All things done to please self, not God. Noone thinks that *those* are sinful - but as soon as sex comes up, suddenly it becomes grounds for condemnation? It's inconsistant!
Also, your interpretations are a little off. Viewed fully, the Onan part is very clear: "But Onan knew that the children wouldn't belong to him. So every time he made love to his brother's wife, he spilled his semen on the ground. He did it so he wouldn't produce children for his brother. What he did was evil in the Lord's eyes. So the Lord put him to death also." - Gen 38:9-10, NIV. It can't be refering to mastubation, because it specifically says he spilt the semen during the act of sex. It's describing him using the 'pulling out' method - pulling out seconds before ejaculation to reduce the chance of pregnancy. A very unreliable technique.
It is true that Onanism is an archaic word for mastubation, but it comes from a mistaken reading of the text.
Incidentially, this is one of the verses the Catholic Church uses to justify their official policy of banning any and all forms of contraception. In their view, Onan's crime wasn't mastubation - it was partly disobeying God, but mostly turning sex into something recreational instead of reproductive. In Catholic theology, the natural and God-intended purpose of sex is to make offspring: Any sexual act that doesn't have a chance of making offspring is unnatural, perverse, and going against God's intended use for the sexual organs.
I also see God demonstrating his oddly bipolar personality. In the Old Testament he is very smite-happy, executing people on the slightest excure, while in the New Testament he doesn't kill anyone and preaches forgivness for all (Except Revelation). Very odd personality shift.
It is clear you disagree with everything Christians believe in. I see no point in you being here. You troll the prayer wall and the comments and its very counter productive.
If you don't agree with X3, just don't come here. Its not here to preach at you, but to offer help to those that want it. If you don't like it, go away. Seriously. There is no reason for you to be here if you don't like it here.

When I masturbated it wasn't like the temptation just popped out of nowhere, it was prefaced by thinking about porn or whatever.

I also know from experience that Owning it causes you to fall away from God, there's no way owning it is an act of worship
