Hey Oprah!!!!

I don't normally watch Oprah. I am not in her book club but would love to be on her show one day. Not cause she is Oprah but because she has cornered the market speaking to women. I don't know of anyone else with such a loyal audience. Today she talked about women and porn. She said nothing negative about porn. She talked about the difference between porn and erotica. She had Jenna Jameson on the show who talked about her time in the industry. I think overall besides Jenna's honesty the show was pointless.  If anything she encouraged erotica and porn for women. If Oprah really had a connection with her audience, I think she would understand that so many of the women that watch her are dealing with the pain caused by pornography not the benefit of it. I am convinced that her audience would have more people that have been affected negatively by porn then positive. While today's show was informative, she did not present the full story. There are enough people that would be willing to go on Oprah to share the other side of the story on her show. Enough women who are divorced because of their husbands porn addiction. Enough women who are not having sex with their spouse because of porn. Enough women to fill a whole month of shows. So, Oprah if you are reading. What are you waiting for? Your audience deserves to hear the other side of the story.

Just in case Oprah is not reading this blog. You can find Oprah on twitter at twitter.com/oprah or hit up her producer and try and convince them they need another show. The producer's blog is here.

A few things  I thought were interesting about the show:

1 in 3 women are looking at porn

13 million women watch porn at least once a month

Jenna Jameson said "the moment you become a porn star you will always be a porn star.  I knew I was going to be a mother having to answer those questions. I don't know exactly what I will say to my sons."

That's all I got. I got to go watch TMZ now to balance out my 1 hour watching Oprah.

Craig, I tweeted Oprah this page and told her how I as a woman, would like her to cover the whole story as well. Now I just pray she takes the time to see it!

Rocking the boat, in respect to pornography, with the kind of media exposure Oprah has would generate a lot of positive discussion. It's a shame Oprah's show didn't explore the issues. I'm sure if Shelley Lubben, or a representative of XXXchurch were Oprah's guest the show could have taken a more significant direction.

I once sent and email to CBC about how I would like to see someone from XXXchurch be a guest on "The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos". I don't know what difference my request made but hey look at this:

Whoa, I completely agree. I just watched my TiVo-ed Oprah and was so disturbed, that's why I am now on your sight. I am going to do all I can to request Oprah presents BOTH sides of the issue. I was very disappointed about how she only presented one side and I am fearful of how "healthy" porn was presented. She is incredibly opposed to child abuse and pornography, but yet on a show about something that is related, she'll sit there and nod, smile and endorse!

Right, because women don't enjoy porn or masturbate. So there would be hours of footage of the damage porn has done to their husbands.
This sexists and shameful attitude towards human sexuality is so damaging. Raising children without knowledge of their full anatomy is far more hurtful than watching people have sex.

@Thomas,

Let us go back, say, a hundred years. There was no TV, computers or Internet. So obviously kids back then didn't watch people having sex. What damage did it do?

How did we start talking about kids watching porn. . . ?

My children are being raised with an extreme awareness and pride in their bodies. My husband and I are doing that in part to try to encourage healthy views of sexuality and hopefully not begin the urges to seek porn for explanations and satisfaction.

I don't think it is sexist if we are talking about this on a sight that helps both men and women who are drawn to watching porn and don't want to be. Oprah talks to women and the show was about women. It was kind of funny though for me to think about Oprah having a show on males and porn in the same light. I am not sure that'd go over as well with a female dominated audience.
