Letter to myself:

Dear sex addict,
First of all I want to say that it’s okay. It’s not your fault. We live in a faulty world, where things that God created for good and from good are distorted and used for evil and wrong intentions. It is not your fault. Secondly, just because it’s not your fault doesn’t mean you are to let it go and let it run rampant, no, that is not what I am saying. Therefore, it’s your responsibility to keep it in check, to stand firm. To remain pure, and walk in purity. You are a man! Not a boy! Be responsible! You have told me you want to be married, how can you be committed to your wife when you cannot even be sexually pure as a single?! Grow up! Love your wife by remaining faithful to her by not looking at porn. You love God right? Then walk in obedience, along the narrow path, not the path that leads to least resistance. Take the path that leads to glorify God! I’m going to tell you what someone told me: Despite the temptations, and even in the heat of the temptation, God is proud of you. Your identity is not a porn addict, your identity is not in porn, but in how God sees you. You are a child of the King of kings. Walk in that, and allow that truth to set you free. Be free in that truth! You are loved, a beloved son of God. Please don’t think anything less than that. Stand firm in the faith, act like a man.

Letter from my sex addict:

Hi,

You don’t know me, and that’s okay. I promise to give you my all, because that’s all I got. I believe that when one is open, it allows others to be open as well. When one is vulnerable, and honest, and truthful, it allows others to do the same, to be the same. With that being said, I need your help. As I give you my all, I exhort you to do and be the same in your communities. Porn is no joke. Seriously. I’m not going to be nice, I’m going to be straight with you. As one who has been addicted to porn for sometime, porn kills! Like anything we idolize, it seems like it’s satisfying, but it’s the kiss of death. Although the silver lining is that God can use anything for our good. While that’s not a license to sin, it is freedom to stop sinning, it’s freedom to be who we were created to be. A relationship with Jesus is the beginning of life. We aren’t truly living until we begin a relationship with Jesus. Jesus doesn’t promise us an easy life, don’t get it wrong. He doesn’t promise us an easy life, although He does promise us himself, and He has overcome the world! In His love, there is no fear! For perfect love casts out fear! I know a lot of people who have overcome their addiction to porn, and it is only through the power of the life, death, and resurrection that those caught in the addiction will truly overcome. Jesus brings life, not death. He brings freedom, not slavery. He is the way, the truth, and the life!
