If you are struggling with pornography there are many avenues to take to set your motivation in place. The most important I believe is to do it because God tells us to not be involved in sexual sin of any kind and we set our mind on obeying God and overcoming the temptations. But there are many other sources of motivation. I have an amazing 5-year-old boy that just started school two weeks ago. He is my motivation for a lot of things. I have struggled my whole life with being over weight. I want to be around for my son for a long time so in the last two plus months I’ve lost 50 pounds. God has given me this miracle boy for many reasons, most of which I am still learning. But I am raising him to love God and serve Him with all his heart. I don’t watch much television but when I do I watch it recorded so I can skip the commercials which these days are way too filled with suggestive stuff, dark imagery, and other things I don’t want him to see, nor do I want to see. I don’t have a porn addiction but as a male you can believe I am tempted by so much in our culture of today. So many images and thought processes that can easily lead down the wrong path. I want to leave a legacy for my son that shows we can have total victory over things that can drag us down. God makes it clear to us that the effects of our sin go way beyond our personal well-being and affect others for a long time.
Ex. 20:5 “You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me.”
Acts 7:51 (ERV) “Then Stephen said, ‘You stubborn Jewish leaders! You refuse to give your hearts to God or even listen to him. You are always against what the Holy Spirit wants you to do. That’s how your ancestors were, and you are just like them!’”
I don’t know how many of you reading this had fathers or brothers that introduced you to porn whether by accident or intentionally. But I am sure it is a large percentage of you that this is true. One of the curses of today is with technology as it is we no longer have to find the magazines hidden behind the bed or catch them watching a video. We have a bigger job ahead of us to leave a positive legacy to our children that requires a lot of work. I hear all the time people talking about leaving our children a better planet. How about we leave our planet better children? It is a powerful motivation to make the right choices that both affect ourselves and others, including our kids.
