When you view porn, it does things to you. And no, those aren’t good things. It encourages lust. It encourages impurity and immorality. I was beginning to get to a point where I wanted physical intimacy with my wife less. And I knew I was getting in too deep. Porn cuts off your emotion.
Men, we’re visual creatures. And as such, when we have any kind of immoral sex (including masturbation), our minds imprint to the situation. We take mental pictures of what we do and the women we view. If it goes far enough, you won’t be able to perform for your wife unless the situation mimics that of the porn or prior sexual experiences. If we are married, we begin to want our wives less and less. And this scared me. It wasn’t very long after this started happening to me that I confessed to my wife my secret sin. I never had an affair but I had been viewing pornography.
And so began my attempt to overcome this sin. The problem was that I wasn’t relying on God in the beginning. As time passed on, though, I knew I had to in order to have victory over this sin. Temptations still abound. Even going grocery shopping, there are provocative magazine covers.
But God has been helping me. He promised He would if we just ask. He has blessed me with a wife who supports me in this journey. I know that not everyone is so fortunate. But God promised to be with us every step of the way and to give us the strength to overcome. Here are a few scriptures to encourage you. Let’s pray for each other.
1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV – No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
Philippians 4:13 NKJV – I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Isaiah 43:1, 2 NKJV – But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.
