There’s a phrase that has been thrown around a lot for the past few years on social media, YouTube, blog posts, and podcasts when it comes to the topic of addiction, and it’s this…

“The opposite of addiction is not sobriety, it is human connection.”

To be honest, I have no idea who originally coined this concept; but most people give credit to British journalist Johann Hari who famously said these words in his very popular TED Talk titled “Everything You Think You Know About Addiction is Wrong.”

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter, but Hari’s statement is extremely profound and echoes a sentiment that many counselors and addiction specialists have claimed for years — that addiction is not about the substance or behavior, but the user’s inability to connect in healthy ways with other human beings.

As a ministry that seeks to help men and women find freedom from the pain, shame, and damage of unwanted sexual behavior, our focus is not on software, curriculum, expensive coaching programs, or courses, but on connecting people with healthy communities of support.

This week I want to share why the Live Free online small groups are a lifeline to men and women worldwide.

Sexual addiction thrives in isolation, and the only hope for success in overcoming this stronghold is through accountability, connection, and consistency.

I’ve said this before; accountability is active. It’s a relationship more than anything.

It requires intention, discipline, and nurturing that must be cultivated like any other healthy relationship.

Our Small Groups Online program offers accountability through community and a regular schedule of meetings.

I’m going to ask you to think about something for a moment because maybe you have never struggled with porn, masturbation, and the like. As a result, you may not realize the great need for a community like Live Free.

Imagine someone you love getting caught up in something they were too embarrassed or ashamed to share with you or their pastor.

Where would they turn for help?
What steps would they take to get free?

Chances are they would look to someone who has been there or has experience with what they are dealing with.

Live Free and Small Groups Online offers just that.

There is something so freeing about finding acceptance and encouragement from those who share similar stories, giving you the freedom to be your authentic self.

Our small group leaders are men and women who understand the cycle and patterns of sexual addiction because they’ve been there or they’ve loved someone who has. They offer non-judgmental yet practical solutions to walking in freedom from sexual addiction.

We currently have 54 paid leaders and 460 members in our Live Free small groups. We plan to grow those groups even more this coming year, but more importantly, we desire that current members can stay in them.

We know that times are tough right now for many people, so we are reducing our member fees (for everyone) by 25% for the first six months of 2022. This isn’t a scam promotion one gets from the cable company where only certain people get the “best” rates.

No, we want to offer real financial relief to everyone we serve so they can maintain the connection they need to find the freedom they seek.

Rarely do you see price decreases anywhere like this, but we strongly believe in people over profits.

But we need your help in making this price reduction a reality. The truth is, it will cut into our operating budget significantly, and without your help, it won’t be possible.
