This is a month when we celebrate free candy, but me? I love ice cream. It’s rich and creamy. Delicious. You go to Cold Stone and get to top it with all sorts of deliciousness. I love it.
However, ice cream does not like me, because I am lactose intolerant. In fact, if you rate my lactose intolerance on a scale from one to ten, it’s off the charts. It’s not even on there.
You could say my year-round love of ice cream is a bad habit. A very bad habit.
A while back, my lactose intolerance got to the point that even one bite of ice cream would do terrible things to me, and I had to do something. So I stopped eating ice cream and starting drinking water instead. Odd trade-off, I know. But it works for me. And awesome side bonus: I started losing weight too. So: no stomach aches, and inches are lost. Total win-win situation.
There are times in life when bad habits need to go. But they can’t just go up in thin air. They need to be replaced with good habits. For me, that was water for ice cream. And while that is a small example, it is a healthy example. Because it works for me.
What will work for you? Here are a few questions that can help you process through that.
1. What bad habit are you giving your time to?
2. What can you replace that bad habit with?
3. How will you make the new habit happen?
