Earlier today, I was scrolling through my Facebook Feed, and I came across what looked like it was going to be a cool art installation video, posted in a link from a friend.  Unfortunately, the video wouldn’t play in Facebook, so I clicked on the link to try to see the video outside of Facebook.  The link took me to a site espousing “all things cool”.  Unfortunately, what appeared to be “cool” to the site’s cultivator were loads of pictures of cleavage shots, half-naked women posing in wet clothes, women swimming in thongs and the like.   Just to help you understand the visual, my perfectly clean, non-sexualized video was in the middle of a sea of soft-core porn and Maxim-styled images.

So, what do you think happens when someone is taken to a site like that?  Well, chances are, especially if they are a young girl or boy, they will want to click on the images and take a look at all of the beautiful, nearly naked bodies.  It was such a simple reminder of something I talk about every day: in our Internet-age, porn is absolutely everywhere.

With just one click of a mouse, anyone, including your children, can have easy, anonymous and free access to soft-core and hardcore pornographic images and videos.  Even when you or your child isn’t looking to come across sexual content, it’s incredibly easy to stumble upon pornographic material accidentally.  Some pornographic sites even use benign terms, non-sexual site names, misspelled words and other tricks to try to lure in unsuspecting viewers.

As a result, any child can easily be drawn into the dark world of hardcore sexual content.  Once a user scrapes beyond the soft-core surface of most sites, they will be faced with group sex scenes, girl-on-girl action, oral sex videos, and even violent sexual content.

This is why it’s absolutely critical to use parental control software (we recommend Safe Eyes) or filters and accountability software (like our X3watchPRO) to help protect your kids from both accidental and intentional access to pornographic sites.  You just never know when you, or your child, will come across this addictive content, so I hope you will start using a filter today.
