I eat so much junk! It is not McDonalds – let’s not get carried away! However, it is way to often that I dive into those amazing Urban Fries at Jack’s or indulge in the cookies someone graciously (maliciously) left in our offices. If I am not careful I can find myself eating something unhealthy everyday. Time for some detox! This week is the first of many where I have cut out sugars, white flours, and fried foods from my diet. As far as I am concerned they do not exist.

At some point in our lives we have to prohibit all the bad stuff from entering our bodies. I know that without all the greasy saturated fats I will be a faster triathlete, a more effective person, and just flat out happier.

This week my Father in Law suffered a heart attack. No one saw it coming. He appears healthy from the outside but something in him was breaking down and his heart eventually suffered from the build up in his arteries. You know how many of us are suffering from a build up in our lives?

It may not be in your arteries, but it is the junk filling our lives. We need a detox. We need a break from all the worries, concerns, sins, unhealthy habits that are slowly clogging up our systems. We must detox ourselves from the unhealthy habits and fill ourselves with life-giving nutrients.

“Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.” [PHILIPPIANS 4:6-7]

“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” [JOSHUA 1:8]

“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed.” [ISAIAH 61:1]

Join me in a detox. Remove the unhealthy items from your life and replace them with life-giving disciplines and practices.
