QUOTE: “What pornography is really about, ultimately, isn’t sex but death.” – Susan Sontag
How many of us have been misled into believing that the way we feel while watching pornography is equal to or better than the way we would feel if we were pleasing God instead of ourselves?
Honestly, it can’t even come close. I think deep down we know that. We know that our fake representation of sex is less than what it should be. We have downgraded sex into thinking pornography is the best representation of it. After all, that’s why we settle for it.
Pornography is not sex. It’s not even about sex. It’s a cheapened version of what God created to be a demonstration of His perfect and holy love.
The first time I heard my married friends describe sex as worship I was uncomfortable because my only knowledge of sex was what pornography had shown me. The thought that sex could be holy worship didn’t make sense. However, God changed my view of sex into His view because I chose to let Him. Instead of taking porn’s word for it, I chose to check what God says about it.
Pornography has no borders. It has no limits. Anything goes. It has turned God’s pure design of sex into this idea that anything is permissible. 1 Corinthians 6:12(NLT) states it better than I can. It says, “You say, “I am allowed to do anything”-but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.” We were never designed to be slaves to anything other than the love of God. When we choose to be a slave to sexual sin, in whatever form, we are settling for a life of dissatisfaction and disappointment. Being a slave to anything other than God means we are choosing constant death; death without the hope of resurrection. When Christ calls us to take up our cross daily and follow Him, He isn’t asking you just to die. He is inviting you into the death of your sin, and then the promise of resurrection to new life. Porn can’t, and doesn’t even offer you that. Porn kills God’s intentions for our lives. Porn is a murderer of love. The quote says it clearly, “What pornography is really about, ultimately, isn’t sex but death.”
We were designed to live full, satisfied lives. The only way to achieve that is to live the way the Creator created us. Imagine buying an iPad, spending all that money, and only using it as a coaster. Imagine the potential you are wasting. Imagine only using your body as a means to satisfy yourself, instead of using it the way the Creator designed it for. Jesus paid a HUGE price for you. He didn’t pay for you with His life just so you would be used as a coaster.
You were created to be a creator. God created you in His image. He is the Giver of Life. You were designed to give life. Not just physical life as in reproduction, but to bring life into people’s souls. The only way to be what God intended us to be is to be like Him.
When we choose to take part in things outside of God’s original design, we believe a lie. The enemy of God has twisted the truth of God’s design into the lie that God doesn’t want us to be happy. We say things like, “God must not want us to be happy if we can’t be gay.” “Why can’t I watch porn? It makes me feel good.” What we are really saying is, “God, You aren’t enough for me.”
Pornography will not satisfy you. Any sort of sexual activity outside of God’s perfect plan will not satisfy you. Only the Creator, the Giver of Life, can satisfy. Nothing else was meant to take His place.
