Hi all! Back with 26 principles/ways to Stop Looking at Porn blog series with Jay Dennis. You can check out the last post here.
Here are another 5 action steps:
Destroy All Porn Stashes
If you have pornography on your computer, possess any pornographic books, magazines, DVD’s (or any other recordings such as TiVo); have pornography on your cell phone, office computer, or any other place, destroy it now! You may even need to destroy your present computer. The cost of not destroying a computer where there is porn is much greater than the cost of destroying it.
Scriptural Basis:
James 1:21
“Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.”
Eliminate Anything In Your Home, Office, Or Other Places That Can Be Used As An Outlet For Porn
Examples are Premium Cable, a Hotel Room (ask for Pay-per-view to be blocked); or even carrying your lap top when traveling. Perhaps you need to use a computer in the Business Center in the hotel where you are staying rather than taking your laptop into your room.
Scriptural Basis:
Romans 13:14
“But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.”
Freedom Is the Result of Embracing God’s Truth. Embrace It Now!
Jesus said only truth will make you free. You must believe that acting on God’s truth and continuing to act on that truth will bring freedom to your life. The truth is viewing pornography is sin.
Scriptural Basis:
John 8:32
“And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
Guard Your Heart
Viewing porn promotes “pornifying” women; that is seeing women as sexual objects. Since the porn you have viewed is stored in your mind, Satan will attempt to rewind and play, using that to encourage a lustful look. Your eyes are the windows of your soul. What you repeatedly expose yourself to will influence your imagination, your actions, and finally your character.
You guard your heart by guarding your eyes and by confessing a sinful thought immediately and placing it under Christ’s authority.
Scriptural Basis:
Proverbs 4:23 NIV
“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.”
Job 31:1
“I made a covenant with my eyes; not to look lustfully at a girl?” (NIV)
I Timothy 5:1-2
“Do not sharply rebuke an older man, but rather appeal to him as a father, to the younger men as brothers,
the older women as mothers, and the younger women as sisters, in all purity.”
Honesty, Total Honesty, With Your Spouse Is Essential
Be honest with your wife. One suggestion is write your wife a letter and then read it to her face to face. This will be extremely painful but is absolutely necessary. Trust has been broken and this is the first, painful step to regaining that trust.
Scriptural Basis:
Colossians 3:9
“Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices.”
