SURREY, B.C. — Does Jesus love porn stars? Amanda Carrasco says he does.

The mother of three from Surrey, B.C., is the founder of the Taboo Ministry, an anti-porn group allied with a similar organization in the United States, the XXX Church.

Carrasco, 32, says pornography is a corrosive influence that can best be resisted through religion. She’s made it her business to go to porn shows and hands out copies of a special bible entitled Jesus Loves Porn Stars.

“It’s just one book of the Bible, the Gospel of John. It’s the same gospel that has been preached for 2,000 years,” Carrasco said.

“It’s just in a snappy package.”

Carrasco and her supporters went to the 2009 Taboo Naughty but Nice sex show in Vancouver and handed out 3,500 of their porn Bibles in two days.

“We were just hanging around and chit chatting with people at the show. We were just telling people, ‘Jesus loves you.’ I was shocked — they’d never heard that before.”

Carrasco said when she first heard of the XXX Church and its program of visiting porn shows to talk about Jesus, she thought they were crazy.

But she said her opinion changed when she saw the results.

Carrasco said she was the victim of sexual abuse and, while she didn’t want to go into detail about her experiences, they affected her very strongly.

“I come from a sexual abuse background. I do have brokenness in my life. I had this forced on me before I had a choice in the matter. Whether they’re prostitutes, strippers or porn stars, virtually every woman in it comes from a background of that.”

Carrasco said she wants to help others who, through no fault of their own, have fallen into sex trade.

“I look at those women and I think that, in different circumstances, I could be there. I remember when I was in the middle of it, it was hard to believe you have value. I can reach out to these women and say, ‘I’ve been there.'”

Carrasco is now getting ready for the next Vancouver sex show in January and she plans to take 5,000 of her porn-star Bibles and to give away every last one of them.

“It doesn’t matter to me whether it’s porn, drugs or an eating disorder, I have totally lived out the fact that Jesus can change your life.”
