Maybe I’m getting older quicker than I thought because…

When I read a brief write-up on a new website and the author said, “What would grandma say?” in response to it, I thought, “Grandma?!? I’m trippin’ out myself about it.” It’s called WhereDidYouWearIt.com and it basically sounds just like you think it does. It’s a “safe sex” initiative that encourages people to “check in” about where they are when they’re about to have sex and share if they wore “protection” or not. Their tag line? “Safe sex. That should be shared.”

It made me think about social media’s affect (or is it *infect*?) on sexual “intimacy” (because let’s face it, sex with someone isn’t always a holistically *intimate* experience). I remember there was an article that came out last year citing that social media actually leads to sex much faster; that 80% of women said it moved the “relationship” along at a faster pace because they could always remain connected to the other individual; that 58% of men said flirting with women over Facebook got them into bed quicker and that 51% said that time with their partners doesn’t bring about the closeness that it used to *due to* things like iPads and cell phones.

So in taking all of this in, the question for this week is very simple. When you think about sex and how social media has influenced it…

“Is social media helping or hurting people’s sex lives?”

Sound off….
