Ted Haggard Special

By Craig on Jan 29, 09 at 10:56 PM | | Comments (10)

I watched the Ted Haggard special. Disappointed to say the least that HBO would actually think the story is even worth telling.

The worst part. The church paying off an young volunteer after he was in a relationship with Haggard. The new pastor seems sincere in his apology but why not talk about this two years ago not pay the kid to keep quiet. Anyone else watch this?

This is CrAzY!
Things like this are the ones that keep separating the unsaved person from God. I don't want to enter into critism, but it is very dissapointing to knowthat this kind of stuff are happening in the body of Christ. I understand that church could be compared to a hospital, but if a pastor do this stuff, what can I, a 16 years old, can expect from the congregation. Don't get me wrong; but I believe that people learn by example. I guess that this is when we need to put our eyes in JususChrist and not in the human.

Very wise Alex92! We are all sinners and we are asked to keep our eyes on Jesus and the Father, not people. The church leaders at the time Jesus walked the earth struggled with sin every much as they do today. They wanted to keep power and not look at themselves and their walks. It's unfortunate but true.

But this sort of thing kept me from church for many years and that is a truth as well. Wise words.

Obviously the things we know he did (and there are probably other things he did) are terrible and worth condemning. But I don't get why it is so disappointing that his story is being told. I watched Haggard on Oprah and Larry King. He seemed (key word, I know) to be repentant and sorrowful, and he says the only thing that brought him through this ordeal is Jesus.
Jesus has redeemed Ted Haggard. That is a story that should be told and should make Christians rejoice! Or is it only exciting when Porn Stars come to Jesus? Has Ted Haggard become too toxic for us Christians? We hear his name and become polarized and go back to our position of condemning him?

We were discussing the way such behavior by people who profess Christian keeps other people away. I have no malice towards him but it's a reason to watch our own walks because it does turn people away. We all sin and none are perfect including clergy. One of the greatest information shared with me was not to compare people in church to Christ or perfection, but keep your eye on your walk with Him. The other person is on their journey and you have no idea how they would be without Jesus in their life. Nor where they will be in a few more years down the road.

If not for Christ being ALL SUFFICIENT, we'd all be done for, hopeless. I hope that Ted, our brother, has the Godly leadership in his life for accountability, authenticity, grace, and that he'll restored to a life that's right in his relationships with his family, people he knows, and the Lord. The process is long and the consequence do not vanish but last a lifetime.
I do wonder what led to New Life actually paying this dude, Grant Hoss, $180??? This guy has now come out and is now talking about it. Does anyone think about the fact that Grant is making money to talk about what him and Ted went through? Why would he want to give this any more attention, let alone ammunition for the public? Did his $180 payout fall short and he is now upset that he was treated unfairly? I don't know. Let's lift our brothers in the Lord up in prayer and fight against the what satan wants to accomplish.

We all need to keep our hearts and minds on Jesus, wash and rewash ourselves with the Word regularly. Personally, the battle for sexual purity has been hell! I've found that with having relationships with gracious, loving, authentic, and
solid Christ followers, recovery and consistency in purity and living right are possible.

The devil comes to steal, kill, and destroy!!!
Jesus has come to give LIFE!!

What's worse....His sin or Craigs sin?

@Amanda
I'm pretty sure the point of this post isn't to compare people, but to be honest about the things that suck like this crappy situation and story.

well, the news media likes to spin things to make the church look bad, but the money grant received was not hush money. the money came from grant suing new life church for what happened. the money didn't come from the church, but from insurance money. new life tried to helped grant get counseling and healing 2 years when he came forward to the church, but grant sill pressed sued a year later. i think it's so interesting to see how the news media likes to skew things so the church gets the shaft. the whole thing is just really crappy and breaks my heart.

The Lord has put these verses from Micah 7 on my heart for those of you reading this and perhaps especially for Craig:

Do not gloat over me, my enemy!
Though I have fallen, I will rise.
Though I sit in darkness,
the LORD will be my light.
Because I have sinned against him,
I will bear the LORD's wrath,
until he pleads my case
and establishes my right.
He will bring me out into the light;
I will see his righteousness.

Let's seek to continue commenting on events in the world in a way that seek only to bring glory to God.

So the pastors side of the story is not worth telling?

I saw it on HBO last weekend and it was powerful! The guy talks about his struggle, says he was wrong, says he is better off now than before, defends the church's decision, owns his sin, has an incredible wife and you say you are "Disappointed to say the least that HBO would actually think the story is even worth telling."

You guys run around promoting Ron Jeremy who also does movies but you think those movies are worth talking about? Double standard?

So Haggard writes books, starts a huge church, leads tens of thousands of people to Christ and you don't think his story is worth telling? You are right, let's just watch another Ron Jeremy film...gosh he has lead how many to Jesus? So the message is Ron Jeremy is worth promoting but not some christian who sins? Haggard has no more value to you so throw him under the bus?

Thankfully with sites like yours Satan can rest. Ted Haggard is hated by the secular world, hated by the gays, hated by the christians.

If Ted Haggard could lead tens of thousands to Christ with this kind of darkness in his life how useful could he be as a man who has had to face the darkness and brokenness in his life. And what about the story of his worthless wife, who stood by him, were you "Disappointed" in that Craig?. You are right Craig, why would you christians want crap like that on TV, we could use a little more divorce in the world, who wants to see some women standing for her marriage, hey what channel is Orange County Housewives on?

Rest easy Satan, the christians have your back.

Shame on you xxxchurch, of all the people who should know better! You are really no different than any other hypocritical church, say one thing and do another. Same stuff, different church. Of all the people who should embrace this man, but you have no use for him. You people are amazing.
