When I was a kid, I had this one car that just would not stop breaking down. Every week, something else needed fixing. I kind of felt like that kid who kept trying to plug the holes in a dam with his fingers, only to have a new leak begin.

Eventually, I realized the real problem wasn’t the nuisance repairs. It was the car itself. It was old, worn down, and needed a rebuild. And until that happened, I was just going to keep paying repair bills.

Honestly, that’s a pretty good metaphor for what a lot of people experience in life.

Whether it’s porn use, infidelity, or some other kind of compulsive sexual behavior—so many people come to us trying to fix one issue. They think that if they can just stop that one behavior, they’ll finally be okay.

But the truth is, that behavior is usually just a symptom of something deeper.

It’s not that pornography or sexual compulsions aren’t serious problems.
They are.

But more often than not, they are ways people try to cope with pain, anxiety, loneliness, or disconnection they haven’t learned to face yet. In other words, the problem isn’t the leak. It’s what’s underneath that’s causing the pressure to build in the first place.

That’s why I tell people we’re not the “anti-porn” guys.

The goal isn’t just to help someone stop a behavior. It’s to help them heal what’s behind it. And that means working through the deeper emotional wounds, attachment issues, and mental health struggles that keep people stuck in cycles of shame and frustration.

Ultimately, real change doesn’t come from behavior management or sin avoidance.

It comes from understanding why we keep running to those behaviors in the first place and learning how to write new narratives built on grace, connection, and hope.

In this short video, I share the story of a man who came to us feeling like he could never get ahead of his struggles. But when he finally started addressing the deeper issues beneath the surface, things began to shift.

His life started to change.

I think his story will encourage you, whether you’re personally struggling or you just care about this mission. Because the truth is, our stories are much more complex and much more redeemable than we often realize.
