Listen, I was once where many of you find yourselves today.

I asked all those questions I mentioned in my last post. I tried reading books, watching videos by supposed experts, doing all the things. And nothing ever seemed to stick.

And that reality just made me feel even more broken and hopeless.

If I’m being honest, in the church world this problem gets 10X worse when speakers and influencers keep talking about sexual sin like it’s just as simple as flipping a switch.

  • “Just stop.”
  • “Try harder.”
  • “Pray more.”
  • “Guard your eyes.”

But here’s what I have come to realize.

One of the biggest hurdles to finding freedom is a flawed understanding of the problem itself.

An understanding that’s been largely perpetuated by experts and leaders who claim to have the “solution” to your sexual struggles but fail to factor in the realities of what it means to be human.

I’ve been called an apostate. A heretic. And worse.

Why? Because I refuse to indulge shameful rhetoric and a “just stop it” mentality. And if that’s what I hear as someone trying to help people, imagine what guys (and women) who are struggling hear?

The constant message: You’re not trying hard enough. You don’t love God enough. Something is fundamentally wrong with you.

The reality is this…

If you, me, or anyone wants to see real progress in this area of their life, we need a paradigm shift.

We need to start approaching unwanted sexual behavior with a spirit of curiosity and empathy — not judgment and shame. We need to understand what’s really happening instead of just trying harder to white-knuckle our way through.

This is part of the reason why we put together this new free video series:

Because…

  • The approach matters.
  • The framework matters.
  • The understanding matters.
