I was speaking at a church last week and, as often happens when I show the parents a brief glimpse of what awaits their kids online, there were some surprised looks on some faces, others shook their heads in disbelief and other made audible gasps. Now everything I show is censored so I am not showing anything inappropriate. But I show enough for parents to get an idea of what is really out there and how their kids can easily find it without much effort.
During my Q&A session at the end of my talk one of the parents said how much this all scared her and made her scared for her children. I told everyone they should be scared. Scared into action. Scared enough to want go home and put an internet filter (like X3watchPRO) on their computers and mobile web devices like tablets, portable gaming devices and smart phones. Scared enough to see what kinds of pictures your kids have on their cell phones. Scared enough to find out what your kids are doing on sites like Facebook and Twitter.
Parents: the porn industry has your kids right in their sights. If they can hook them young, they’ll have a customer for life. They are on the attack. This is a war and most parents are bringing a bb gun to a tank battle. And when that light bulb goes on, they get scared. They should be. They are under-equipped and heavily outgunned. But there is hope.
During my talks, my goal is to educate and equip parents so they’re ready for the fight. XXXchurch also educates parents and has lots of resources to help them in the battle against porn. But parents you have to want to engage in this fight. You have to get involved and learn what you need to do to protect your family. If you’re scared, turn that into anger at what the porn companies are trying to do to your kids. Then jump into the battle. If you’re reading this, then you’re already getting your war paint on!
