I have heard this statement or statements referring to this sentiment many times. Let me give you a few reasons this is not true for me and in fact I believe the opposite is true.

  1. The darker it gets the brighter the light shines:

Although Porn seems to be everywhere and we are living in a sexually charged time the likes of which we have never seen. The opportunity for us to make a difference and to help each other has never been greater. I believe that the more the worlds moral fiber erodes the more ,we as a church, can stand against this. In regards to Sexual Sin, We are in a place to start redeeming the culture and changing the way we interact and deal with the people trapped in this dark place.

  1. A known enemy is better than a hidden one:

The History of the church tells us that many times we haven’t known the spiritual battles we face until its to late. The fact that we see the problem and we can address it on a regular basis is a reason to rejoice. Being able to speak into the spiritual battle that is raging will only help us in the long run. Knowing the disease helps us find a cure.

  1. Transparency will save the Church:

The fact that so many are coming forward in our churches that have struggled or are struggling with this is very encouraging. We are only as sick as our secrets and the more we bring this problem to the forefront the less of a hold it has on us. Church leaders that are willing to discuss the struggle of porn will be great leaders through out the years. Churches who are willing to understand the brokeness of their pastors will be churches where Pastors don’t burn out trying to be perfect. The next generation of transparent churches will be the churches who are finding freedom and health amongst the wasteland of sexual sin.

  1. A real faith is a faith that catches fire:

When we are in accountability groups and accountability relationships life can be lived. Faith that deals with our real hurts and doubts is a faith that is alive and growing. People want a faith that can deal with real problems not a faith that is fake and weak. When we walk in healing and grace we demonstrate the love of Jesus and the amazing story that is the gospel.
