We are gearing up for a new campaign next month addressing the issue of pornography and kids and parents.

I just read some pieces from a great new book written by Tanith Carey called Where Has My Little Girl Gone.

Here are some tips for parents:

-Don’t believe that your child won’t be exposed.

-If your child doesn’t see porn at home, there’s a good chance she’ll be introduced to it by  her peers.

-Set up filters.

-Explain that porn isn’t sex.

-But gently explain that porn is not making love in the way that an action movie does not depict what happens in real life.

-Don’t over-react.

I thought it was interesting that 83% of teenagers don’t tell their parents after they’ve seen it because they’re terrified of  the reaction. As kids get older, the number of teenage visitors to porn sites climbs. By the time they’re 17, one in four says they have sought out porn.
