You are driving and suddenly you see an ad for some porn-related website on a church van while rolling through a suburban cul-de-sac, where the neighborhood kids are busy playing hopscotch and two-square. Well, that visual could become a reality if Senate Bill 1453 (SB1453) goes through the assembly (already passed through the state senate) and ratified by the governor.

Curren Price, a state senator from Los Angeles, introduced SB1453. This bill would allow the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to display digital ads on car license plates whenever they want. The ads would not be shown while the car is in motion, however, when the car is stalling or in the park position, various ads may pop out from nowhere. We guess that the DMV are trying to become the government’s version of Google.

In an effort to cut down on the state’s $19 billion deficit, state lawmakers are coming up with desperate ideas to ameliorate problems state-wide. So will the idea work? We think that this idea may work, however, expect for car accidents and complaints to be on the rise!
