Pornography addiction

I’ve been addicted to porn since I was ten. I’ve read Pure Eyes and have taken all the needed steps to overcome this. Including having multiple accountability partners and even telling my parents. I pray constantly to ask God to help me overcome it. I want to be free more than anything in the world, but still I continue to fall over and over again. What am I missing? I know God has big plans for my life, I’m going into the ministry when I’m older, and want to be able to help other people struggling with this as well. I can’t do that if I continue in this sin. What do I need to do?

Daniel,

What has happen to your accountability partners? Where are they now? You need to make sure that you find ones that WILL hold you accountable.

Have you investigated what your day looks like? Have you dissected it to see when your moments of weakness might be? Also you need to look hard enough into yourself as well and try to find the root cause of why you turn to porn. Is there something in your past that drives you to this or your desire for it.

The big thing is that you have to want to do this and you have to hate this with all your might. If you even allow just a glimps of this to stay in your life it will always find a way back in.

Fighting porn addiction

I started watching porn not too long ago. When I was about 11 I used to look up certain things on YouTube. I did this for a while. Before this I struggled with addiction to masturbation. I wasn’t sure what I was doing but I knew it wasn’t right. Once this got mixed with what I watched on YouTube, I started doing both things more and more.

Eventually I started going to porn sites on my iPod, not finding anything wrong with it at the time. After months of doing it, I decided it had to stop. I decided it was an offence to god and I began praying every time I had the temptation. I would say things like: “Please lift the addiction. Please take away the temptation. Forgive me for my sins, etc.” This wasn’t working.

My issue is that my family is not very religious. I am the only one who has a connection with god and I feel that I have to keep this from my family, but that’s a whole different story.
My question is: what should I tell God? What I’m saying isn’t working. I’m not very experienced in prayer. I don’t know what to say to him. If anyone can help me, please do. I would appreciate it.

Johnny,

You need to find someone who you can talk to about this. Do you have a church that you attend or go to that you can talk to someone there? Maybe a friend or a consulor at school. We can pray all the time to God to take this away and he will listen and provide ways out of this but, you have to look for His tools that he provides to help you and he will. I know it is hard but, you will need to bring someone or others in around you to help with this.

how to stop being an addict

i am 15 years old and i really need help. its hard being a preacher’s kid and then come home late at night watching porn..i try to stop but it’s like my body starts shaking if i wait to long..it keeps from long hours of sleep and everything..please how can i stop.

Keisha,

I feel your pain here and can sense the tension around you. You need to talk to someone about this. If you keep running around in your life with this held in to your self you will only go deeper and find yourself entangled in a life that you do not want for yourself.

Find someone you know who you can sit down with a talk to about what you are going through. This can be a friend, mentor, or maybe as hard as it may seem, your parents.

You need to get accountability and you can do this with help from others, setting up  a plan to stop, and getting filters and/or accountability software on your computer or mobile devices.

I know this will be tough and you may feel you can not do it. But I promise you if you do not do this you will have to one day and it will not be on your own terms and you will be even further down the road with this. To do it your way on your own terms is so much better than getting caught.

Know that you are not alone in this and that we are praying for you. Also know that know matter what you have done God still loves you and wnats so much for you to run far away from this junk.
